Work is Cooperative

Emma Waterland and Louise Hodgson recorded on 15/12/2022

Emma Waterland joined LEDA in 2021 and is responsible for the planning and implementation of their marketing strategy, working in close collaboration with directors and members to lead a strategic approach to the ongoing development of the business. This includes looking after the brand and communications as well as promotional activities and bid management.

Emma has over 20 years’ experience of business development and marketing in the built environment sector, having previously worked for contractors, engineering consultants and architects.

Louise Hodgson joined LEDA in April 2019, and is their Practice Manager. Prior to this Louise taught Geography to 11-18 year olds in a secondary school for 8 years, inspiring young people to learn about the physical world around them and helping pupils to understand the environment and how they can shape the places where they live.

Louise’s role at LEDA is a mix of Office Management, Finance, Business Support and Human Resources.

Louise is LEDA’s ‘Green Champion’ and completes the audit and report for their Investors in the Environment accreditation every year. Louise has a real interest in protecting the environment we can’t live without and promoting continuing to be able to live on our only home. She is a valued co-op member and drives forward developments within the co-op.

LEDA is an environmentally considerate design cooperative created to help take us in to a sustainable future. LEDA is creating and delivering sustainable building design, locally and across the UK, that underpins every project they undertake. Through specialist advice LEDA enables their clients to deliver projects with reduced environmental impact and create buildings that can actually focus on improving the health and wellbeing of their occupants.

About the Podcast

Working Hours
The Story of Work in Leeds in the 2020s
What do you do?
Western Studios, Leeds presents Working Hours: a podcast series surveying the people of Leeds on their thoughts and feelings on the topic of work. I want to talk to my city about work. Why do we do it? Do we like it? What could we do differently? What will we? How does work change and how does it change us?
Leeds, the largest city in the largest county on the UK mainland, is a former imperial textile centre and is now a major UK financial centre. This series will document the city’s experiences through Lockdown, Brexit, creeping technological unemployment, new and continuing resource wars, the ongoing dismantling of the welfare state and our accelerating ecological emergency.
If you are in Leeds or from Leeds then help me to reach my target of interviewing 1000 Loiners over the 2020s. Let me ask you, what do you do?
